Don’t Forget God in the Summer
From late August until early June, I spend over five hours or more a day homeschooling Amanda. We all look forward to the summer months! We take a family vacation, and have more time to be together during about two months in summer than the normal routine during the year. We also enjoy major summer conferences, with July in Louisville, KY and August in Huntington, WV.
...let us not forget the word of God continues, people are dying lost and the gospel must continue unrestrained and unhindered.
With school out, vacations, more summer activities and the desire to spend weekends with family, it is easy for the average Christian to forget the importance of the local church, supporting ministries and volunteering and participating in outreaches. At times, the income necessary for a family vacation or those weekend trips is taken from the same income that is used to support the church and ministries.
One of the more personal things that we do as a family is to set aside, in advance and over a period of time, the amount of income we believe it will require to provide for our annual plans. I have a Christmas fund through my bank that takes out of my paycheck a certain amount during the year and it is collected until the end of November, where I can tap into the fund for Christmas gifts. The same is true with vacations or special events. It is good to plan in advance.
This same principle of planning in advance is a good way to make arrangements for attending one of our main conferences throughout the year. Our best attended and most anticipated conference is the Fall Main Event each year in the fall (October 9 - 13) at Abba’s House in Hixson, TN. The dynamic array of morning speakers, the luncheons and Partners Banquet, the night services with the “heaven on earth” music, is more than worth the effort you make to attend!
In the midst of thinking about ourselves and our desires, let us not forget the word of God continues, people are dying lost and the gospel must continue unrestrained and unhindered. Throughout the summer, your support is needed and appreciated at the VOE. I hope to see many of you in Louisville, Huntington or Hixson. Thank you so much for your prayers and support of the VOE and OCI ministries.
Love and Prayers,
